Should I buy my baby a baby walker?
Julia Youll answers:
Putting a baby in a walker is like giving a teenager a Ferrari - a dangerous risk. That's why, as of April 2007, Canada has banned the sale of baby walkers.
UK data also suggests that more accidents and injuries happen in babywalkers than with any other form of baby equipment. This is because they give babies extra speed (a baby can reach up to one metre per second in one zoom), extra height and access to multiple hazards.
Most injuries are caused by falls when the baby walker tips and the baby is thrown downstairs or crashes into furniture, heaters or ovens. There is also an increased risk of your baby being burnt by previously inaccessible objects, such as candles and hot cups of tea. Thirdly, it allows her to reach household poisons, such as perfume, mouthwash or alcohol, left at a previously safe level.
Most people believe that when a baby is occupied in his little 'wagon', he is safe and can be left unsupervised for short periods. In reality, extra vigilance is needed when your baby is in a walker and your baby would be safer left on the floor in a hazard-free room. (Read tips on baby-proofing your house.)
Walkers won't help your baby learn to walk and in fact, using one too much may even delay her development slightly. A baby needs to roll, crawl, sit and to play on the floor, in order to reach her developmental milestones.
In spite of the worrying statistics, an outright ban on walkers could be unrealistic. Some experts feel they should be designed only for babies over nine months of agewho are already sitting and crawling, and are limited in the speed that they can travel.
If someone suggests a walker for your baby, consider alternatives or, better still, let her exercise on the floor in the good, old-fashioned way.
so para ibu semua, apa pendapatan anda?
hari tu dd nak beli walker masa haris asik nak berdiri bangun je
ReplyDeletetapi cikgu taska ngn ada kawan2 rapat yg dah ada anak x bg beli.
katanyaa biar haris belajar berjalan sendiri sambil meniti dinding2 instead of gune walker. kata mereka klu gune walker nanti anak lmbt berjalan, sebab ada bantuan walker kann.. klu xde walker, anak usaha gigih siket nak meniti2 dinding kasi berjalan sendiri
gitewww
kite amik yg positif je laa dari apa yg org sekeliling kite ckp ni ;)
oo.. patut laa hubby tak bagi.. hmm.. betul gak eh.. buleh jimat belanja gak kan? kan?
ReplyDeletehehe..
thanks dd.. ^_^
murni.. benda ni depends pd kita sbnrnye.. mcm aku dlu bg qimy msuk walker ni umur 4bln++.. tu pn sbb akk aku suh letak dlm tu tuk kuatkn bdn dia.. like kita bg bby mandi air sejuk la..
ReplyDeletetp benda ni kira masing² la.. alhamdulillah qimy 9-10 bln dh start menapak n ngam² birthday dia setahun dh blh jalan tanpa bantuan..
aku dlu beli walker murah² je yg jual kt kedai bicycle.. yg blh dpt dlm RM30 je.. sje beli murah sbb nk bg dia merasa naik walker lgpn kita pkai kejap je.. dr segi keselamatan, kita kena awasi la anak tu.. n jgn bg lama sgt dlm tu.. setakat 5minit dh ok..
so ikut naluri ok.. klu "tidak" melebihi segalanye.. so say no..!! hihihi..
dhia dulu pun pakai walker jugak....tak la lambat sangat jalannyer..
ReplyDeletekalo dah hubby kate x payah, x yah la kot..depends..
bahaye berada di mana2..tak semestinyer bile pakai walker..
hmm.. macam² pendapat rupanya eh..
ReplyDeleteanak2 kak ziah pun tak pakai.. yang abang siap belajar jalan pakai kotak lagi hahah..dia tolak kotak yang besarla.. dalam kotak tu kami letak bantal so berat kotak tu... yang abang lambat sket jalan sebab badan dia bam bam.. hiks.. tapi dia advance.. dari duduk terus berdiri...
ReplyDeletekak ziah : ye ke kak? bagusnyeee.. =)
ReplyDeletemama hanna, dina pun x beli walker utk baby dina. and yes, mmg nampak development dia cepat sikit berbanding kawan2 sebaya dia yg guna walker. dina mmg insist on cara besarkan anak d old fashion way. means, bagi je dia golek2, menyusur, duduk, panjat, crawl, berdiri sendiri... instead of beli walker, better beli developmental toys n bg dia explore rumah dgn sendiri. just make sure kt lantai x kotor n keep awal hazardous items. but then terpulanglah masing2. =)
